Winter Wonderland

Just surfing and found something I thought I might put up :-). I am sure you've heard the song winter wonderland, I've heard it so many times and keep humming it when I go out (because that what this place seems like - A big WINTER WONDERLAND), but never bothered to read its lyrics. Anyways just did today, and the verse

"In the meadow we can build a snowman,
And pretend that he is Parson Brown
He will say: Are you married? well say: No man,
But you can do the job when youre in town."

Made me wonder about Parson Brown..so looked it up and found the following :-)

"Parson Brown" is the term used to talk about a typical angelican priest of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. "Parson Brown" is not an actual person (though he might have been at some time), but a figure of speech, like "John Doe" is an unidentified male and "Charley" is a watchman. "Parson" by itself means minister. ~ Urban Dictionary

In the period when this song was written, parsons (now known as a Protestant minister) often travelled among small rural towns to perform wedding ceremonies for denominational followers who did not have a local minister of their faith. Therefore, the children are most likely pretending that their snowman is a Parson with the surname "Brown," which would be visiting the town again in the future. ~ Yahoo Answers
